History of IPC Kuwait Sunday School
IPC Kuwait Sunday school was started by the inception of the
church itself in the year 1976. Though known as Sunday school
it is conducted on Friday morning which is the official holiday
of the week. From the beginning, the Sunday school has been
following the syllabus published by the
IPC Sunday School Association.
Brother Alexander Mathews, P. M. John, Jacob Thomas, P. V
Jacob and Sister Saramma Mathew were the teachers in the beginning.
Although
it started with few students the number steadily increased.
The total strength of the Sunday school was 175 students with
25 teachers. Nearly
100 students were non Pentecostals. Later we could see many
of them getting saved and enjoying the Pentecostal faith along
with their parents.
Until the Year 1990 when Iraq invaded Kuwait our Sunday school
was held at 5 different places simultaneously namely Abbasiya,
Khaitan, Fahaheel, Salmiya and Sharq. After invasion many
could not return and few left for USA and Canada. From the
year 1992-1998 it was held at the church parsonage in Abassiya
and also at the residence of Bro. M. M. Mathew in Salmiya.
Ever since the inception of the Sunday school it has been
involved in many activities. We count it a privilege that
we have been able to help many unfortunate students in India.
In the year 1980-1990 an average of Rs 25,000 was send every
year to the needy children in India. We were also fortunate
to help in the printing
of the IPC Sunday school text books. Above all hats off to
our teachers who were instrumental in translating the Sunday
school text books from Malayalam to English. Though the work
was tedious they did an excellent job in translating most
of the syllabus. We are extremely happy to see
that it has been benefiting many churches around the globe.
Vacation bible school was conducted during the summer and
many children from different denomination attended and were
blessed. Our Sunday school also took initiative in organizing
a retreat that was well attended by many of the Sunday schools
in Kuwait. Apart from the annual examination talent competition
are also conducted were the teachers and parents enjoyed seeing
the competitive spirits of the little ones.
Students participated in different competitions like solo
song, recitation, elocution, story telling etc. It is worth
mentioning that during different occasions nearly 10 students
of our Sunday school recited psalms 119, the book of Hebrews
and proverbs chapter 1-10.
With Gods help and guidance over these years we as teachers
and parents could bring up our children in the right path
for them to become a living testimony. We give all glory and
honor to our heavenly father who enabled us to thrive over
the years.
